A. Tooley (London) classic early metal shafted Chipper with patent number c.1930

Details 

A very nice example of an early steel shafted putter by A. Tooley & Sons who were a well known hickory club maker based in London from the early 1900’s. The club measures 35.50” (90cm).

The club has been restored to play condition but would also make a fine addition to a golf club collectors portfolio. The crown of the head is clearly stamped with the makers name and address and the sole shows the model name ‘BEATEL’, Special Iron, Patent No. 772550. His ‘Forest Brand’ cleekmark is stamped to the face. The mark is three trees which he designed having formerly been the professional-club maker at the Honor Oak & Forest Hill Golf Club from 1904 to 1909.

Whole In One. English Patent. Early metal shaft coated with Pyratone c.1940's.

Details 

A very nice example of an early metal shafted adjustable iron with head settings from 2 to 7. This club is in original condition. A nice display item, or could still be used for play if an allen key can be found to fit the adjustable key at the heel end of the head.

The head has very clear stamps showing the model name ‘Whole in One, Adjustable Golf Club, the English Patent No.467396 and Rustless.

MacGregor (Dayton, USA) Early Metal Shafted 16° Brassie, model Master 30 c.1925

Details 

A very attractive early metal shafted brassie having a fancy face and marble patterned strike band. This club is totally original but remains in play condition or would make a superb addition to an early metal shaft collection. The swing weight is C0 and the length is 42.50” (108cm).

The makers name is stamped within the strike band with the model name shown below.

Cotton-Mills Patent Long-Nose aluminium head fitted with a coated metal shaft c.1935

Details 

A nice example of this early steel shafted long-nose putter coated with pyratone. This club remains in original condition and can still be used for play or will make an attractive addition to an early metal shafted collection. The length is 34” (86cm).

Made by the Standard Golf Company in conjunction with Henry Cotton who won the Open Championship in 1934, 1937 and 1948. His signature is clearly stamped to the crown of the head. The makers name is stamped to the sole with Birmingham, England shown below. They started to stamp their clubs with Birmingham soon after 1932 when the company was sold to investors and the production was moved to Birmingham. Other stamps show the model name Cotton-Mills, Patent, Medium Lie 9 ozs 2 dr.

Spalding - Tom Stewart - Henry Cotton early metal shafter Putter with a goose neck style c.1935

Details 

An elegant early metal shafted putter produced by Spalding with the head supplied by Tom Stewart, the famous club and cleekmaker from St. Andrews.  The length is 34.50” (88cm).

The head is stamped Spalding along the top edge, with the famous Tom Stewart ‘pipe’ cleekmark stamped to the bottom edge. The autograph signature of Henry Cotton, the famous British Open Champion (1934, 1937 & 1948) is shown in the centre.

A.H. Scott (Elie) early metal shafted 9° large headed Driver c.1925

Details 

A nice early metal shafted by A.H. Scott who was one of the most renowned club makers during both the hickory era and the early metal shafted era. The swing weight is C2 and the length is 42.75” (109cm).

The club has been restored for play or would make a fine addition to an early metal shafted collection. The maker’s name and his crown with lion cleekmark are stamped within the strike band across the top of the head.

Gowers Brown (England) 'Lifesaver' Nylon Mallet Head Steel Shafted Putter c.1940

Details 

An unusual smooth faced putter with the head being made from nylon. At the time of production a Patent was pending. The length is 34.75” (88cm). This club is in totally original condition.

The head has a strike groove across the crown to help line up the ball. The model name ‘Lifesaver’ and the maker’s name are both shown on the sole. Other marks are ‘Nylon’ and Pat Pend. The makers name is stamped to the shaft below the original grip.

Walter Hagen. Bent Neck, Smooth Faced Putter fitted with a 'Glass Fibre' shaft and Brass head c.1940

Details 

An unusual glass fibre shafted putter by designed by Walter Hagen, the 4 times Open Champion. This club remains in original condition and can be used for either play or display. The length is 34.50” (88cm).

His signature is stamped to the sole of the attractive brass head with the model number HP-4S shown at the heel end.

John Letters (Scotland) 'Golden Goose' Putter. Metal shaft with a dual smooth face brass head c.1950

Details 

A nice example of this model which became very popular with the professionals. It was launched in 1946 and was produced until the late 60’s. The club remains in original condition and can be used for either play by either a right or left handed player or would make an attractive display club. The length is 35” (89cm).

The makers name and model are both stamped to the sole.
